About Jazz Elite: A Legacy of Musical Excellence

Founded by Dr. Iantheia Calhoun in 2003, Jazz Elite stands as a testament to a rich history of fostering musical talent in Westchester County, New York. Initially established as an auditioned jazz program for middle and high school students, Jazz Elite aimed to bridge the gap for aspiring musicians who faced financial or logistical challenges accessing other prestigious programs in the region.

Under Dr. Calhoun’s leadership, Jazz Elite became a beacon of high-quality musical instruction, providing students with invaluable performance opportunities and exposure. The program’s unique mentorship model engaged professors and graduate jazz performance majors from Purchase College and Manhattan School of Music, along with local professional musicians. This collaborative approach extended to community partnerships, securing funding and in-kind donations for scholarships, instruments, travel expenses, venues, and guest performing artists, ensuring the success of Jazz Elite’s students.

As Jazz Elite looks to the future, Dr. Iantheia Calhoun envisions a relaunch that goes beyond geographical boundaries. The program is poised to embrace a broader vision, expanding its reach to serve young talents across multiple states. While the details of this revitalized vision are still taking shape, the commitment to fostering musical excellence, inclusivity, and community engagement remains at the heart of Jazz Elite’s mission.

Stay tuned for updates as Jazz Elite prepares to embark on a new chapter, inspiring and empowering the next generation of jazz musicians.
